Artist Statement
For the past several years I have been interrogating forms and figures in the landscape, both the natural landscape and in interior spaces. My last series of work was about chefs fighting over food in idyllic California and Italian landscapes. The current work similarly engages the figure, but now contends with the notion of surveillance and reconnaissance and their devices for storing and collecting secrets. These figures are both spectators and participants, complacent to scrutiny and perhaps subversion. You may find these furtive figures in parks or inside cramped apartments searching through documents and old technology, or beneath the shadow of listening devices. The medium of the work includes oil paintings, drawings, and mixed-media collages.
